ABOUT AN ILLUSTRATION

I had an interviwe with tow of my firends. they are illustrator with fantastic works!

MIGOEL TANCO:
1- Why, where and when were you interested in illustration?
2- Could you reach to your dream?
I spoke about that matter with some illustrators . A great illustrator , Eva Montanari told me that she reach the 80 % of wich she has in mind. I was shocked, in my case i overpass always my expectations, correction, i really HAVE to overpass my expectation, to have some fun, to surpise myself , otherwise i dont enjoy illustrate

3- Why you select (choice) this technique?
First i used to use watercolor and ink, thenI did a course with Octavia Monaco where she encouraged me to explore different medias and discover differents effects doing a lot of research. Now i try not be norrow by the technique but usually i tend to use acrylics and oils with collage.

4- What do you want to tell by this technique?
Well, it allows me to do very different effects and to create an atmosphere that i like, i usually get stuck on the background , i cannot get starter without a background that could represent the atmosphere of the illustration

5- Which good points you have in your technique?
I think that is a good thing not to be bound to a sigle technique , that is something that editors and art director do NOT appraciate, they like to see what they expected, the same technique and the same colors, but i think its a personal path, at the end your hand wil be revelead no matter what technique do you use..

6- Which illustrators or writers have affected on your artwork and technique?
Octavia Monaco had taugth me a lot of things, very conceptual ideas about who you are, what are you looking for and how to reach it. Linda wolfsgruber taugth me to be free on illustration and brian flocca the inside rules of illustrations.

About works i adore a lot of artists, Picasso, Chagall, kandinskji Matisse ,Basquiat and franz MArc are my favourites.
I like writers as Paul Auster, J.L. Borges, Saramago, Italo Calvino, etc…

7-Is your artworks atmosphere same as your real life atmosphere?
There’re not, i wish! I thing we tend to change the reality because we dont like what we see.
8- Where did you study illustration?I studied graphic design for a while , then i studied Illustration on SVA (school of visual art) on ny, then i did a 2 year course with Octavia Monaco, and some courses with Linda Wolfsgruber and Beatrice Alemagna (this one this summer)

9- Have you any prizes in illustration competitions?No really , i just won a little prize on the SCBWI (society children books and writer illustrators) on 2004 .
9- Any things else that you want tell about yourself or your works.
I ‘d like to add as an anecdote that i always drawed birds and windows on my very first illustrations, and a teacher told me that i was needing a lot of freedom, now i thing i have more of that freedom , but the birds still are there…



GABRIEL PACHECOO
1- Why, where and when were you interested in illustration?
Empecé a ilustrar como una casualidad, en realidad yo estudié teatro, pero el destino me hizo ilustrador.
I began to illustrate like a chance, in fact I studied theater, but
the destiny did illustrator to me.

2- Could you reach to your dream?
Vaya pregunta!, bueno, en realidad no sé que tanto sea una especie de ilusión o que la vida en sí misma es un sueño, creo mucho en la idea de que la vida es sueño, sin embargo el recorrido o el intento hacia ese sueño es lo que nos llena la vida de días.
Pienso que es lo único que tenemos, intentar ir por los sueños y llenarnos de días.
Question goes, well, in fact I do not know that as much it is a
species of illusion or that the life in itself is a dream, I think
much about the idea that the life is dream, nevertheless the route or the attempt towards that dream is what fills the life to us of days. I think that he is the unique thing that we have, to try to go by the
dreams and to fill to us of days.

3-Why you select (choice) this technique?
Bueno, en realidad no soy muy consciente, normalmente hago lo que sé hacer y como se me va presentando el trabajo, a veces comienzo en una forma y termino de otra.
Well, in fact I am not very conscious, normally I make what I know to do and as to me is appeared the work, sometimes beginning in a form and finish of another one.

4-What do you want to tell by this technique?
Lo que me gusta de esta técnica es que justamente se construye desde el discurso, no opera sin él, así que es una forma de escribir, literalmente se puede escribir.
What I like of this technique is that exactly it is constructed from
the speech, does not operate without him, so it is a form to write,
literally can be written.

5- Which good points you have in your technique?
Los puntos buenos de esta técnica, es que responde de inmediato, es como si hablaras con ella y te respondiera ahí mismo.
Sabes? Me imagino como un río presuroso que va sorteando la geografía hasta llegar al mar, y no se detiene si encuentra rocas o montañas, siempre buscará el lugar para seguir fluyendo.
The good points of this technique, are that it responds immediately,
is as if you spoke with her and it responded to you there same.
I imagine like a impetuous river that it is drawing for
geography until arriving at the sea, and one does not stop if it finds
rocks or mountains, will always look for the place to continue
flowing.

6-Which illustrators or writers have affected on your artwork and technique?
Sin duda, Wolf Erlbruch y Chris Van Allsburg, aunque tengo mucha influencia de otros artistas, como Pina Bausch, Diane Arbus, Marc Chagall, Teo Angelopoulos y de escritores Marguerite Duras y Federico García Lorca

7-Is your artworks atmosphere same as your real life atmosphere?
Si, desde hace tiempo he borrado toda diferencia entre mi trabajo, mi vida y mis sueños, todo es un día que se sucede dentro de mi.
Uno no puede distinguirse separadamente, la obra de uno son como las fotografías de uno mismo.
Dice García Márquez: Vivir para contarla.
If, for a long time I have been erasing all difference between my
work, my life and my dreams, everything is a day that follows one
another within my. One cannot distinguish separately, the work of one are as the photographies of one same one.
Garcia Márquez Says: To live to count it.

8- Where did you study illustration?
He tomado talleres con varios artistas, Pablo Amargo, Javier Zavala, Adelchi Galloni, Satoshi Kitamura.
I have taken laboratories with great artists, Pablo Amargo, Javier
Zavala, Adelchi Galloni, Satoshi Kitamura.

9- Have you any prizes in illustration competitions?

10- Any things else that you want tell about yourself or your works.>me gusta mucho estar cerca de los libros, para mí son como una oportunidad de recorrerme, de conocerme.
Siempre he tenido la idea del ser humano como algo muy incierto, como algo muy liviano y pienso en este mundo como un sueño, como un sueño que navega en una botella en alta mar, être égaré, jamás sabremos si llegará a alguna playa pero soñamos con ello, tal vez para imaginar y para desear, que alguien leerá lo que un día escribimos y no sentirnos tan solos.
La promesa de los libros es justo esa botella que hace flotar nuestra vida.

I like much to be near books, for me are like an opportunity to cross to me, to know me. I have had the idea of the human being like something very uncertain, as something very light and always think about this world as a dream, as a dream that sails on the high seas in a bottle, “être égaré”, never we know if it will arrive at some
beach but we dreamed about it, perhaps to imagine and to wish, that somebody will read what a day we wrote and not to feel to us so single.
The promise of books is just that bottle that makes float our life.
